What file name should I use as the first page name?
index.html - is the only constantly supported default page that is loaded when no particular page is specified.  If you are using any supported web technology you may wish to use a web redirect similar to the following:

<HTML><HEAD>
<TITLE>Redirect Code</TITLE>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="0; URL=http://www.yourdomain.com/index.shtml">
</HEAD>
<P></P>
<BODY></BODY>
</HTML>

I am trying to update our website and I can not see any changes to the site, what could be wrong?

  1. You could have the incorrect default page name see this.
  2. Your browser may have the old page in cache you may need to refresh (in IE F5 will do this) the page, o/r close all the existing browsers and try to view your newly uploaded page again
  3. Check your FTP or Publishing software to make sure no errors where returned when you tried to publish your page.
  4. Some dial-up providers cache frequently pages to make it seem like your site uploads fasters, though a great marketing tool, not good for a webmaster trying to test a new page!  The only thing you can do in this case is wait.
